 Chest Pack |
|
| A cotton cloth (10 inch wide & 12 ft long) and woolen cloth (12 inch wide and 12 ft long) is necessary for the chest pack |
| Procedure |
| Immerse the cotton cloth in cold water and wrung it thoroughly removing excess water. Apply the cloth around the chest and across opposite shoulder. The same should be done with the woolen cloth. The edges of the woolen cloth should be tucked in, to prevent exposure to air. Normally, the duration lasts for 30 minutes to an hour, but it should be retained throughout the night in some cases. |

| Uses |
This pack is useful for patients with asthma, bronchitis, allergic colds, cough, laryngitis, hypertension, heart diseases.
Note: - The patient should not expose his body to the cold air during or immediately after the treatment. Cover the body with a blanket followed by rest. |

 Enema |
|
| Enema is an injection of various fluids such lukewarm water, neem water buttermilk, various herbal decoctions. It is one of the basic treatment methods in naturopathy |
| Procedure |
| The patient should lie down on his side and the lower leg should be kept straight and the upper leg folded at the knee joint as shown in the figure (side recumbent position). The edge of disposable catheter is smeared with oil and is slowly inserted into the rectum. After the insertion, raise the enema pot to a height of 3 feet, gradually water enters the rectum by gravity. Water should be retained for about 5-10 minutes, and then the bowels should be evacuated. |

| Uses |
Helps in cleansing the digestive system, and is useful in cases of constipation, flatulence, indigestion and several other diseases. In diarrhea, the inflammation in the colon is reduced by giving a cold water enema or buttermilk enema. In leucorrhoea and painful menstruation, hot water enema should be given.
Note: - Enema is taken during fasting periods daily. |

 Full Immersion Bath |
|
| This treatment consists of a full tub bath with both hot and cold water connections. Temperatures vary according to the condition of the patient and season. |
| Cold Immersion bath: - (20-260 C) Duration 5-10 minutes |
| Procedure - The patient should enter the tub with minimal clothing and lie down keeping his head above the water. The attendant will give a gentle frictional massage with a soft towel all over the body. After the bath, the patient should dry himself as quickly as possible, wear warm dry cloths, followed by rest. Avoid exposing to cold weather. |
|
| Uses - Useful in high fever, heat stroke, skin diseases, paralysis, muscular dystrophy, polio, and other neuro-muscular disorders. It is contra-indicated in conditions like severe weakness, heart disease, elderly patients, and very young children. |
|
| Neutral Immersion bath: - (30-360 C) - Duration 20-30 minutes |
| Have a glass of water before entering the tub, (wet cold napkin over scalp is optional). |

| Uses - Useful especially in the winter season. It is a sedative and gives comfort to the body in all diseases. Helpful in High fevers, rheumatism, multiple sclerosis, alcoholism, chronic dysentery etc. |

| Hot immersion Bath |
| Here the water temperature is 38-420 C. it is useful in all the painful condition, obesity, diabetes, weak digestion, flatulence, asthma, skin and hair problems etc. |

 Foot And Arm Bath |

| Procedure |
| Sitting comfortably on a chair, the patient should immerse his feet and or his arms in the water. Temperature of water and duration vary according to the season and patients complaints. |

| Cold Foot Bath - (15-240 C) |
| Duration last for 5 minutes. The water level should be up to the calf muscles; and the feet should be frequently rubbed against one another. Uses: - Especially useful in excess menstrual bleeding). |
|
| Hot Foot bath: - (40-420 C) |
| Duration can last 10-20 minutes. Note that drinking water before hand, entering with a cold compress over the head, and taking a cold shower after the bath is necessary. Useful in relieving headaches, sinus problems, frequent colds, menstrual disorders, joint pains, and blood pressure. |

| Hot Foot & Arm bath |
| Here the arm and feet baths are given simultaneously. Drink water before treatment; place a cold wet napkin over the scalp. Cold shower or full body sponging is necessary after the treatment. Duration is 15-20 minutes. |

 Hip Bath |

| Procedure |
In minimal clothing, the patient should sit in the tub comfortably keeping his legs out over a stool. Only the naval region, hips, upper, thighs, and lower abdomen are submerged in water. Rub abdomen with a napkin to increase circulation to the internal organs. Water Temperatures vary according to the condition of the patient & season.
Cold Hip bath: (18-240 c) – Duration 5-15 minutes
Neutral Hip bath: (30-360 c) – Duration 10-15 minutes
Hot Hip bath: (40-420 c) – Duration 5-10 minutes.
Prior to hot hip bath, drink a glass of cold water and place a cold wet pack over the scalp. Take cold shower or full body sponging after the hot hip bath. |

| Alternate H & C Hipbath |
| Two tubs are used, one with cold other with hot water. The patient should alternatively sit in the hot tub for 3 minutes and then in the cold for 2 minutes for 3 to 4 times. |
|
| Uses - Relieves all types of pains originating from the abdominal region, digestive disorders, menstrual disorders, renal stones, sciatica, and etc. |

| The patient should drink 1-2 glasses of water and enter in to the immersion bath tub with a wet napkin over scalp. The water temperature initially should be at 370 c and then gradually raised to 420 c by frequently adding hot water. Duration is 10-15 minutes. A cold shower or sponge bath is advised after the bath. |

| Uses |
| This bath is useful in all painful conditions, over weight, bronchitis, pneumonia, hypothermia, osteoarthritis, gout, rheumatism, paraplegia, etc. In the latter few conditions, Epsom salt is added in the water. |

 Jacuzzi |
|
| The Jacuzzi is a new innovation in the system of hydrotherapy. Here the tub is equipped with a powerful water pump, which produces a strong jet stream of water within the bathtub. |
| Procedure |
| The patient should enter the tub with minimal clothing. The temperature of the water is neutral (30-360 c). If the condition of patient is good, then cold water at 20-260 c with duration of 15-20 min is used. After taking Jacuzzi bath, the patient should dry himself and rest for 20-30 min. |

| Uses |
| The effects of Jacuzzi are similar to those of a whirlpool bath. The powerful jet causes friction and massages the body, relaxes the muscles, relieves tension, and increases circulation to the skin; thereby removes morbid matter from the body. It also enhances the functions of the heart and lungs. |

 Mud Swimming Pool (Mud Bath) |

| A unique innovative naturopathic treatment method, the mud swimming pool in Kayakalp is the first of its kind in India. The mud is collected from pollution free river banks and lakes in hot summer season. The dry mud is pulverized and filtered to remove thorns, sticks, stones etc. Sufficient amount of water is added to cleaned & filtered mud and mixed thoroughly to make mud paste, and then it is transferred into the pool. |
| Procedure |
| The subject must be in minimal clothing, take shower before entering the pool. (Brisk walk or moderate exercise is recommended before mud bath). Do self-massage with soft mud for 15-20 minutes, then come out and allow the mud to dry under the sun. Various exercises can be done to induce heat in the body. Once the mud is dried completely, (repeat the procedure if desired). Otherwise, take shower and rest for an hour. |

 Mud Application |
|
Mud can be applied to the whole body or the desired part depending up on the requirement. The mud should be prepared and soaked in earthen pot at least a day before use. Apply the mud to the whole body, staring from the feet and covering the legs, thighs, hips, waist, abdomen, back, like wise covering all body parts. Expose the body to the sun for next 30-45 minutes or till the mud is almost dried. Remove the mud by taking the shower and followed by rest.
This is useful in eczema, psoriasis, stress, migraine head aches, insomnia, High Blood pressure, Digestive, urinary, and gynecological problems etc. |

 Sauna Bath |
|
| A sauna bath is dry heat, produced by an electric heater. |
| Procedure |
The patient should enter the room after a brief shower and drinking a glass of water and with a cold compress over his head. Once inside, he should rub his body with his bare hands to enhance circulation. The duration lasts about 15 minutes or until the patients attain full perspiration. After that a cold shower or a sponge bath is advised. The procedure can be repeated two or three times depending on the fitness of the person. Rest is compulsory after the full treatment.
Note - If the patients feel a reeling sensation or dizziness, the treatment should be discontinued immediately and a glass of water or lemon juice should be given. Sufficient rest is also advised. |

 Jet Spinal Bath |
|
| This is a specialized bath in which a powerful jet of water is applied to the patient’s Spine. Temperature and duration vary according to the condition of the patient and season. Procedure: In minimal clothing, the patient should lie down on his back so that the spine receives the full force of the water jet. |
| Cold Spinal bath: (15-240 C) |
| Duration 10-15 minutes. Walk briskly after this treatment for about 15 minutes or if you feel weak lie down and cover your-self with a blanket. Useful in high blood pressure and psychological disorders such as, Stress, Strain, Insomnia etc, |

| The patient should be in minimum clothing and should drink 1-2 glasses of water before entering the steam room with a wet napkin over scalp. Duration is 10-15 minutes or until the patient gets full perspiration. After steam bath a cold shower or sponge bath is necessary. |

| Uses |
Steam bath increases blood circulation to the skin, opens the pores, mobilizes fat, and increases the basal metabolic rate, which helps in reducing weight. It is also useful in painful conditions such as arthritis, spondylosis, body pains, Skin diseases, Diabetes etc. In high blood pressure, Coronary heart disease, and asthma, a cold chest pack should be given before entering the steam room.

 Whirlpool Bath |
|
| In this bath, a huge circular tub is used. It is equipped with powerful water pumps, to produce a powerful whirl (circular waves) in the tub. Normal water temperature is used and the duration lasts about 15 minutes. |
| Procedure |
| The patient should be in minimal clothing. Steam bath, Sauna or moderate exercises are recommended before taking this bath. Initially stand against the water waves and feel the pressure, later try to float & follow the waves to move around within the tub. The revolving water massages all parts of the body, stimulates nervous system. |

| Uses |
| This bath increases vital capacity, blood circulation to the internal organs, and enhances the heart and lungs functions. Whirlpool sensitizes nervous system and helps in paraplegia and psychological disorders. If warm water is used, perspiration increases and thus helps in obesity and hypertension and hypothyroidism.  Abdominal Pack |
|
| A cotton cloth (8 inch wide and 6 ft long) and woolen cloth (10 inch wide and 8 ft long) are necessary. |
| Procedure |
| Immerse the cotton cloth in cold water and wrung it out thoroughly. Apply the cloth around the abdomen and lower back from the lower end of the ribs to the upper margin of the pelvic bone. After that, the woolen cloth is wrapped over the cotton cloth in the same manner, and the leftover (1inch) margin should be extended into the sides to prevent air exposure. The duration normally lasts from 30 minutes to an hour and if required, can be retained throughout the night in some cases. |

 Mud Pack |
|
Mud pack is prepared by using a thin cotton cloth about the size of 12 inch by 18 inches. First the cloth is immersed in normal water and then spread over the plastic or wooden tray (8 inch by 12 inches). The mud which is previously soaked in a bucket is spread over the cloth. The thickness of the mud pack should be about an inch. The edges of the cloth are folded back and placed over the abdomen so that the cloth side of the pack is facing down.
Mud packs of various sizes are used depending up on the area of the body, like eyes, forehead, throat, scalp, abdomen, lower back, knees, etc.
Mud packs are useful in removing excessive heat from the body, there by removing the toxins by increasing the metabolic rate of the localized area. Useful in disease conditions like acidity, ulcers, flatulence, constipation, Renal, urinary and gynecological problems, hypothyroid, Diabetes, Hypertension, Obesity, etc. |

 Abdominal Compress |
|
Use thick Turkish towel of at least 30/60 cm in size, dip in water and rinse the towel to remove the excess water. Now fold the towel in to half so that it becomes the size of 30/30 cm. Apply the two folded towel on the bare abdomen and cover the moist towel with any dry cloth or linen.
Duration: - 10-15 minutes.
Compress is useful in all kinds of digestive disorders, menstrual diseases, urinary, diabetes, and fever, etc. |

This treatment is useful in improving the blood circulation to the skin, there by opening the skin pores, removing the toxins from them. This is effective in body and back pain. It increases production of vitamin D in the body. Useful in many skin diseases, obesity, arthritis, knee pain, gout, jaundice etc.
The patient should get prepared by drinking a glass of water and he should be in minimum clothing and then cover the head and scalp with a cold and moist cotton towel. Lie down in supine position and cover the entire body with a thick plastic bag. The plastic sheet should cover the entire body from neck down to the toes exposing to the direct sun light. Duration is from 10-20 minutes depending on the weather condition.  Full Wet Sheet Pack |

This treatment is also very useful in all the diseases related to the digestion, Urinary problems, swellings, edema, obesity, fevers, skin diseases, hormonal problems, etc.
Before beginning drink a glass of water and be in minimum clothing. In this treatment the patient is wrapped in a wet and moist sheet (cotton cloth) covering the entire body just exposing the head and face, and then over this wet sheet dry woolen cloth is wrapped insulating from the cold breeze. The total duration of this treatment depends up on the patient’s condition ranging from 30-45 minutes. During the procedure the head should be covered separately by cold and moist towel. |
